Tenerife Advances in Secure Access Project for La Rambla, Set to Begin in 2025

In a significant move to enhance safety and accessibility, the Cabildo of Tenerife is pushing forward with a critical infrastructure project aimed at improving access to the La Rambla neighborhood in San Juan de la Rambla. This initiative, which has been a long-standing demand from local residents, is slated to commence in 2025.

Historical Demand and Current Commitment

The need for a secure access route to La Rambla has been a persistent issue for decades, with previous administrations failing to make substantial progress. However, the current government has taken a firm stance on addressing this concern. Dámaso Arteaga, the Consejero (Councillor) of Carreteras (Roads), emphasized that it is the current team that has assumed the responsibility of initiating the project, as no concrete plan or progress existed before.

Project Details

The project involves the construction of a subterranean passage in the Barranco Ruiz, which will enable safe entry and exit to the La Rambla neighborhood without disrupting traffic on the TF-5 highway. This infrastructure will include landscaped areas, pedestrian crossings, and secure pick-up points for public transportation. The design is tailored to resolve a critical safety issue that has plagued both drivers and pedestrians in the area.

Collaboration and Funding

The Cabildo de Tenerife is committed to licensing the work and starting its execution in 2025. Arteaga highlighted that the current administration has ensured the necessary funding, contrary to the previous four years when no concrete actions were taken despite the historical demand. The project has received a significant boost with the inclusion of a budget allocation of 4.6 million euros, a move that was initially proposed by the socialist group but not acted upon during their tenure.

Community Involvement

The success of this project is not just dependent on governmental efforts but also on the active participation of local communities. The Cabildo will continue to collaborate closely with the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) of San Juan de la Rambla and the community platform "Todos con La Rambla," which has been instrumental in highlighting the need for this infrastructure.

Impact on Quality of Life

Arteaga underscored that this project reflects the Cabildo's firm commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents of La Rambla. By ensuring a safe and accessible route, the project aims to enhance mobility in high-risk areas, a move that aligns with the broader goals of improving road safety across the island.

As Tenerife prepares to embark on this significant infrastructure project, the residents of La Rambla can look forward to a safer and more accessible future, thanks to the concerted efforts of the local government and community stakeholders.
